Summer Storms Cause Freezure Failure | Cheap Car Insurance and Home Insurance from Confused.com
Thousands of Summer holiday makers setting off on annual leave throughout July and August could find themselves counting the cost of their break in more ways than one, warns www.confused.com. According to the insurance search engine summer storms, resulting in power cuts and tripped fuses, could leave many returning to freezers full of defrosted and decaying food, which may not be covered by their insurer.
Confused.com’s research reveals that the average UK freezer has £173 worth of food in it, while 34% of us have freezers stuffed with goods worth between £200 and £500.
While the vast majority have not suffered the horror of returning home to defrosted freezers, 37.5% have had to throw out thawed food on their return from holiday.
Debra Williams, Managing Director of Confused.com, advises anyone heading away over the summer to either run down the amount of food stored in their freezer, or to make sure that their home insurance provides sufficient freezer cover:
“Our research shows that time and again people get caught out by summer storms, resulting in lost food and damage to their property from subsequent flooding. Coming home to find defrosted food is bad enough, but finding out that your home insurance does not cover loss of food could be far worse. For a matter of a few pounds most insurers will provide this extra cover, and extra piece of mind.”
www.confused.com provides a free, real-time service to home owners, which instantly compares home insurance quotes from over 70% of the home insurance market, bringing back a full list of premiums within a couple of minutes. The service typically saves users who have not previously shopped around for a better deal an average of £120 on their annual premiums.
