Home Owners Leave Out Keys for Burglars | Cheap Car Insurance and Home Insurance from Confused.com
Research from the UK’s leading online search engine www.confused.com, has revealed a staggering 26% of home owners have left spare door keys hidden in the garden or elsewhere, enabling opportunist burglars to make unforced entries to properties.
Many home owners may be shocked to know that if a thief uses a key, their home contents insurance is likely to be invalidated, with many home insurance companies refusing to pay out on such claims.
Debra Williams, Managing Director of Confused.com said: “People often leave keys hidden in the garden and elsewhere so that a friend or relative can enter the property, yet by doing so, burglars also have access. If you go to the trouble of locking and securing your home, don’t leave keys hidden. Burglars tend to be well aware of the usual hiding places for keys, and there would be nothing more distressing than finding out that you’ve invalidated your insurance through your own doing.”
