Something Old, Something New – Wedding Insurance from Confused.com

Publication Date: Monday, February 04, 2008

Q: What do tired horses, chocolate éclairs and lightning strikes have in common?
A: They are all factors which have - at some time or another – ruined couples’ weddings.

Not a particularly funny joke, that one… And no doubt even less amusing for the hapless folk whose big days have been spoilt by horses too tired to pull carriages, chocolate smears on wedding dresses, and churches struck by lightning. However, on the plus side, ill-fated couples have been able to claim for such disasters on their wedding insurance policies.

For just such occasions, Confused.com is now offering couples wedding insurance, through one of the UK’s leading providers Weddingplan.

And taking out cover is a smart move if you consider that, whether it proves to be the happiest day of one’s life or otherwise, it is certainly one of the most expensive. According to Weddingplan, UK couples will have paid on average a whopping £18,490 for their weddings during the course of 2007, and the cost of getting married is rising at approximately 6.8% annually – over twice the current rate of inflation.

Mark Randerson of Weddingplan said, “A wedding is one of the biggest financial outlays a couple will ever make… However carefully you plan, things can and do go wrong – and for the cost of a bouquet of flowers, we advise couples to insure their dream dress and their dream day, to have peace of mind.”

Weddingplan insure an average of 9,000 people annually, and cater for all types of weddings – from low cost ceremonies in the UK to lavish events abroad.

Insurance cover is available in three different packages starting from £27.50 (online rate) up to £174. Cover levels vary according to the package, but all include cancellation of wedding and failure of suppliers down to personal accident or legal expenses.

So let’s all charge our glasses to thinking ahead!
