Lock up your gnomes - 33% of Brits are victims of garden theft

In a new survey by rural insurer NFU Mutual, 33% of those polled claimed that they that they had been victims of garden theft. And with the average garden contents now topping £2000*, the insurer is warning homeowners to be extra vigilant.
A spokeswoman for the insurer said that with more and more being spent on state of the art BBQs, garden furniture, tools and toys, it is easy to forget how much this stuff is really worth.
The company also provide a list of tips to help protect garden items including:
- Ensure you have enough garden cover on your home insurance
- Take photos of valuable items and data tag them or mark with your postcode
- Fit good quality locks to shed and gates and make sure they are used
- Fit motion light sensors to areas
